We focus on a couple key factors for our beef cattle; genetics, phenotype, docility, and forage adaptability.
Genetics: We focus on carcass and maternal keys. These two factors provide high quality beef characteristics such as marbling but also lend to longevity and health of cattle. We also want a cow that will calve strong and unassisted but maintains a solid growth factor.
Phenotype: Cattle have to look like cattle. We like easy fleshing cattle with a solid base feet, deep ribs and weigh around 1400lbs.
Docility: Our cattle are easy going and are calm. Cattle that are flighty or rangy can cause you all kinds of problems. We cull them from the herd if they can not be trusted.
Forage Adaptable: In West Virginia we have several types of forage. Specifically we have an amazing fescue that maintains a high protein percentage during the colder months, however not ever cow tolerates it. We focus on cattle families that are proven on various forages.
